Meet Our Teachers

 Bill Cook has been practicing and studying Yoga for over 20 years and completed the 700 hour Integrative Yoga Therapy Professional Yoga Therapist and Teacher Training program with Joseph Lepage in 2001.  Since then Bill has continued his own study and practice, attended various workshops and teacher trainings including yoga and mindfulness for children with Little Flower Yoga and the inaugural Mindfulness Yoga and Meditation Teacher certification through Spirit Rock from 2007-2009.  Bill has also completed the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Mind-Body Medicine Residential Training/Retreat offered by the Center for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts Medical School  as well as their Teacher Development Intensive. He has also completed the Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Professional Training for the Prevention of Depression Relapse with Zindel Segal and Susan Woods, and The Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention for Addictive Behaviors with Neha Chawla through Omega Institute. Bill teaches an eclectic yoga with a focus on mindfulness, breath and flow.  Classes are 2 1/2 hours and include chanting, warm-up and asana, relaxation, pranayam and meditation.

Bill & Wendy

Wendy Carty has been a yoga practitioner and Thai Yoga Massage Therapist for over 15 years and co-facilitates the Mindfulness and Conscious Living, BodyMind Awareness Training Program with her husband Dr. Bill Cook. Wendy completed the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Mind-Body Medicine Residential Training/Retreat offered by the Center for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts Medical School several years ago and her Yoga teacher training at The Yoga Institute in Houston Texas.  Wendy teaches a slow mindfulness yoga, emphasizing the breath, accessible to all levels. Wendy also has a special interest in bringing yoga and mindfulness to children and has done special training in this field with Little Flower Yoga. Wendy’s core interest is in Hospice and to deepen her capacity to care for others in their living and dying she has done extensive training in contemplative palliative care and hospice including The Being with Dying professional training program  with Joan Halifax; Contemplative Palliative Care with Craig Blinderman (director of Adult Palliative Care Service at Columbia University Medical Center), and Revs. K. Ellison and  R. C. Campbell from the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care; MBSR and Palliative Care workshops with The Center for Mindfulness; and Hospice training with Fredericton Hospice. Wendy is now  one of Canada’s few certified Soul Midwives  having completed this training in the United Kingdom with teacher Felicity Warner.  

Wendy has a longstanding interest in Lifestyle Medicine and incorporates its fundamentals in all her undertakings.

 

Shiona McIntosh is a native New Brunswicker.  She received her undergraduate degree from Mt Allison University and her MD from Memorial University of Nfld.  She completed her family medicine residency in Ottawa, and has been practicing family medicine since 1993.  She developed a passion for MindBody medicine once she moved to Fredericton 9 years ago.  Since that time she has undergone 2 professional training courses through the University of Massachusetts, and she has been teaching a version of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction for the past 5 years.

Dr McIntosh has a busy family life with her husband and 3 children, and enjoys many activities including spending time with her family, friends and dog, doing yoga, kayaking, running, cycling and skiing.  She greatly enjoys helping patients help themselves through the process of mindful self discovery and awareness training that is offered through the mindful practices.

 

Shelley Langmaid is a mother of three children who has been teaching childbirth classes in the Fredericton community since 2000.  Since she began obstetrical training as part of her education at the Bathurst School of Nursing (1993-1995), Shelley has had a particular passion for family centered, holistic care. She received a Bachelor of Nursing degree from UNB Fredericton (2001).  Shelley has been certified as a childbirth educator by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professionals Association (2003) and has been a member of the CAPPA Canada faculty since 2007.  A certified Roots of Empathy instructor, Shelley goes into schools with parents and their infants to teach school-age children emotional literacy. A long-time yoga practitioner, Shelley has also undergone training in yoga postures for pregnancy. She is currently enrolled in the on-line Mindful Motherhood professional training course offered by the Institute of Noetic Sciences.  This research-based course teaches families simple mind-body coping strategies for pregnancy, childbirth and parenting.  Shelley’s overall education and experience reflect her passion for parenthood and empowerment.
